Start your student off on the right track! The Core Academy line represents solid craftsmanship and materials, proper setup, and good tone production, at a nice price.

The A14 is handmade with aged wood, well-constructed with all the right dimensions, and then adjusted in Howard Core's Alabama workshop. This translates to an easy-to-play violin with quality sound that you can count on. Truly a great value for beginning students, the solid craftsmanship and durability will last year in and year out.

What’s the difference? Slightly better quality than the West Coast option above with a nicer case and better quality strings.

  • Lightly flamed maple back and sides
  • Spruce top
  • Inlaid purfling
  • Ebony fingerboard, nut & saddle
  • Includes ebony pegs and endbutton

  • Side mount chinrest
  • D’Addario Prelude strings

  • Sizes available: 4/4-1/16 (Help)

BEST - Scott Cao 017 Violin Outfit

The best value you can find in a student violin under $600, the Scott Cao 017 is one of the few in this category that is completely handmade with a traditional oil finish, ebony fingerboard, and ebony or rosewood fittings. It is set up and strung with Dominant Strings.

The hand-applied oil finish is more durable than the alternative high gloss spray finishes, which tend to chip and splinter more easily. The oil finish also allows the woods of the violin to resonate freely, producing a better tone. The Scott Cao 017 has a hardwood ebony fingerboard and rosewood or ebony tuning pegs, ensuring the violin plays correctly and maintains a high level of tuning stability.

Sizes available: 1/32, 1/16, 1/10, 1/8, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 3/4, 7/8 & 4/4 sizes (Help)
