Gerald Knoll is regarded as one of the finest bowmakers in Germany today. Having grown up in the "business" (son of Hartmut knoll, grandson of Alfred Knoll), he studied both violin making and bowmaking, taking diplomas in both areas. His primary love is bowmaking, so he also did an apprenticeship with Hans Karl Schmidt in Dresden, regarded by many as the finest bowmaker in Germany.
