The Betts is one of Stradivari's finest works and marked the beginning of what is described as his "Golden Period". The violin was originally purchased by Betts at the Royal Exchange in London for the sum of one guinea. Today, the Betts violin is considered one of the four or five greatest violins in existence. The Betts is unique in that its enormous power and limitless range of colour and expressiveness make it one of a kind. In the book "Antonio Stradivari: His Life & Work" the tone of the Betts violin is by saying "The distinguishing features of the tone are the mellow brilliancy of the quality and the facile articulation."
Reproductions of the 1704 Betts are available in the STV 950 and 1500 models by Scott Cao. All models of Scott Cao Violins are professionally setup and ready to play. Click here to learn more about the differences between the Scott Cao violin models.
