August F. Kohr HC602

For years, the August Kohr HC602 violin has received high praise as a great value instrument. Unique from other violins in the same price range, the 602 features a 1-piece back and seasoned, choice tonewoods which allow the violin to project a clear, warm, & rich sound. The varnish is a medium satin, medium reddish-brown to golden-brown finish. Additionally, this instrument received a glowing review by Strings Magazine in the 2001 August/September issue (see below).

"The playability is superb, projecting well and not taking much effort to elicit response. The tone also caught our attention with a balanced and unclouded sound, with each note having a resonant core. The wood is light and thinner on top, with a one-piece back and slick, red varnish with blond highlights. The well-matched package revolves around an advanced-sounding violin with first-rate playability and craftsmanship. Our reviewers had a hard time choosing just one strong point for this instrument and ranked it as one of the best violins we reviewed."

The HC602 is ideal for advancing players who want a great sounding violin at an excellent price. However, if you like the build of the 602 but desire a violin with an "antiqued" finish, consider the August Kohr HC622
